Wolf spiders will only bite when provoked and their venom is not very harmful to humans. You may exhibit some redness or swelling but no serious medical problems.
Brown Recluse (LOXOSCELES RECLUSA)
Brown Recluse spiders are usually ¼ inch to 1 inch long and are light to medium brown. These spiders are usually have markings on the dorsal side with a black line coming from it that looks like a violin with the neck of the violin pointing to the rear of the spider. Brown Recluse Spiders build irregular webs. They frequently build their webs in woodpiles, sheds, closets, garages, cellars and other places that are dry and generally undisturbed. In the home, Brown Recluses can be found in shoes, inside dressers, in bed sheets of infrequently used beds, in clothes stacked or piled or left lying on the floor, inside work gloves or near any sources of warmth when ambient temperatures are lower than usual. The Brown Recluse bears potentially deadly venom.
SYMPTOMS OF A BROWN RECLUSE BITE: Red swollen area with black or dark center, painful and itchy. Necrosis or decomposing of skin will begin in 3 -5 days after bite. Other symptoms may include Nausea, Vomiting and Fever, Rashes and muscle and joint pain.
BLACK WIDOW (LATRODECUTUS)
Black Widow Spiders construct a web of irregular, tangled, sticky silken fibers. FEMALES: Dark or black in color usually exhibiting a red or orange hourglass on the underside or bottom of the abdomen. Some may have a pair of red spots or nothing at all. MALES: Smaller than the females and are often grey or brown and usually lighter in color than females. They will sometimes have an hour glass marking on their abdomen but may be yellow or white, not red.
SYMPTOMS OF A BLACK WIDOW BITE: Severe muscle pain, abdominal cramps, raised heart rate, sweating and perspiration. Symptoms usually last for 3 – 7 days.
